Leakproof FAQ'S

Our Leakproof Collection care, absorbency and general questions are below. Please email us at contact@mummamillashop.com if you need assistance, we are happy to help!

What is the Leakproof effect?

Our signature three-layer moisture-wicking technology is designed to catch breastfeeding leaks.

How does a Leakproof Bra work?

  • All Leakproof bras feature built-in, non-removable leakproof layers to catch breastfeeding spills.
  • Nursing access — Recommended method for nursing is to drop the strap off your shoulder and pull down the bralette to expose your entire breast for easy nursing access. This can also be done whilst wearing a T-shirt or shirt.
  • Our bras are a solution to nursing pads that move around inside your bra, fall out when you nurse and can be seen through your clothing.
  • Our unique slim-line absorbent layers will catch breastfeeding let-downs, so you don't have to rely on nursing pads 24/7.

Is it OK to wear a Leakproof Bra at Night?

  • Absolutely. A soft, supportive and clip-free bralette is an essential for night, especially if you are feeding around the clock.
  • The built-in leakproof layers will catch breastfeeding let-downs, and the simple crossover design is made for easy pull-aside access when you may be feeding in the dark.

When can I start wearing a Leakproof Nursing Bra?

  • Our leakproof bras are designed for pregnancy through postpartum and beyond, so you can start wearing them whenever you'd like. Breastmilk leaks generally occur when your milk comes in after birth, although some mothers experience leaking before giving birth.
  • Our bras are wire-free and designed for maximum comfort, with soft, stretchy fabric to grow with you from the first to the fourth trimester.
  • Mums even wear the bralettes once their breastfeeding journey has finished.

How often do I need to wash my Leakproof Bra?

  • We advise washing your leakproof bras every day to keep them clean and hygienic and help maintain nipple health.
  • They can be placed inside a delicates bra bag in your wash cycle and hung to dry in an airy, sunlit spot.

What if my milk leak is heavy?

  • Nipple health is a priority.
  • Breastmilk leakage and let-downs differ from person to person. Use your discretion and change your bra throughout the day or night.
  • If you have an oversupply or heavy let-downs, it is important not to wear a saturated bra against your skin. A saturated bra occurs when the inner layer is completely soaked through and does not dry against your skin.
  • Silicone milk catchers or reusable bamboo nursing pads can also help with heavy flow whilst nursing.

How much milk can a bra absorb?

  • Our leakproof bras are designed to capture as much milk as possible; however, they cannot keep up with extreme milk loss.
  • We believe it is not healthy to wear a bralette that carries too much milk, so our bras are designed for light-to-moderate milk flow only.
  • Milk leakage generally settles once your milk supply has established itself and adjusts to your baby's needs.
